Removing the Landline

I’ve just deactivated the landline for Kashiko. No doubt there may be a few calls to it and if that happens to you, please have my apologies.

However, I don’t believe the number of potential callers justifies the lines existence. So let’s get into why it was turned off.

Number of Outbound Calls

These really were very low. Most of my work communication takes place via Teams or Zoom, with the rest being focussed on mobile phones.

The number of outbound calls did not justify the presence of the landline.

Number of Inbound Calls

Sadly this was even lower than outbound calls. With so much happening via online messaging and email, the landline was getting somewhat cobwebby.

Use Teams Instead?

I know a lot of organisations make use of Teams or similar as a landline replacement. This technology works extremely well. For the right kind of organisation using Teams as a telephone replacement is a smart move.

I don’t really gain anything from that switch, so the instead I’ve switched to other kinds of communication.

What will I do with the savings

Money will be saved by removing the landline. It would be nice to say that this would be part of a cost reduction exercise. However, the monies will be placed elsewhere.

Right now, I’m looking at developing courses about the integration of AI into SharePoint, Power Platform and daily work practises. The money will be spent on AI.

Just in case you are wondering, an AI did not tell me to do this.
