Pollinger Social

Pollinger Social is an example of website Reconstruction.

Jonathan Pollinger is a Freelance Social Media Trainer and Consultant. If you want to know how to get the most out of your social media then contact Jonathan.

This post is about his website. There was a problem with the existing hosting company. They were too expensive and had added on expensive value adds that didn’t provide an appreciable benefit. It was time to move host.

The plan was for Jonathan to have a direct relationship with a new hosting supplier whilst I worked on the site migration. Although the old website had some redundant features; both its blog and pages had good content. We asked for a backup of the site and ended with the database of content and all of the images. What we did not get was the site design and site backend software.

Step 1

Install WordPress onto a development server. The next step was to take the existing database backup and migrate any needed information to the new database.

The same thing happened to the images all were imported into the new system.

Next, we added some support plugins and an outline of the site to run off.

Step 2

Now it was design time. Web site styling started. At this point, a good number of the pages were almost exactly as they were in the original. A few key pages such as the blog page and home needed quite a bit of work. These pages now have some brand new elements that are custom styled to the new site. Whilst retaining some previous styling to aid familiarity.

Step 3

With the site completed the time had come to move it to its hew home. I did this over a weekend. There quite a few ducks to get in a row when moving a website. The weekend move was all about minimising impact to the business should anything go wrong.
